Ok so lots of thoughts have been flying around in my head lately. A lot of re-focusing going on around here!
First off...
I have been reading this book "your time-starved marriage" by Parrott. It is a great book with many applicable things to your marriage but also just to life in general. Simple things that we forget. Like slowing down at the supper table, tasting your food, and being mindfully present in the conversation. So many times in the past I sit down to eat with my family and my thoughts are, "ok, when we get done I've got to do the dishes, get baths, etc." So the mealtime is just another thing to check off my to do list but mealtime is more. Its a time to enjoy your food and connect with your family. I want to savour the flavor of the day and not be so future minded that I miss the present gift! Saw a quote at Cracker Barrel a few days ago, "Learn from Yesterday, Live for today, and Hope for tomorrow"! Seems like a good plan for life!
Second thought...Busy...ugh! A word I am starting to dislike! Of course I have used it many many times. We are too busy, you are too busy, we are all too busy but for the most part it is our choice. Where is our time going?? This book shows time suckers in your life. Believe me they are everywhere! For example...facebook! Yes I love it too and it is great to connect with people (especially folks that live off...like my friend Jess in Taiwan!!!). So now I have chosen to limit myself and be more mindful of the time I am giving to it. Giving is the keyword. We give our time to different things. I need to value my time and give it to purposeful things. Honestly I would rather have face to face communication any day over facebook. A couple months ago I got a new devotional called, "LOL with God" it talks about a virtual disconnect and the glowing screens on our face. All these distractions that are keeping us from meaningful conversations with God and people!
The goal for 2011 is to be mindfully present in my day (savour the flavor), not completely future minded (but enough to plan for the future), organize my life (working on that) and to be face to face with my family/peeps if possible (minimize my glowing screen face)!! And yes I will post this on facebook...I am not saying eliminate it completely!!!! haha
I'm trying to focus on "today" too! Hope it is working for you guys... thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMiss you!
