Today our family begins on a 30 day mission to teach our kids compassion, gratitude, and to be content with what they have. We have set some plans out for our family to try and accomplish this. Hopefully it will impact them and us.
I love our kids so much but lately they seem too spoiled, too blessed and not appreciative of what they have in their life. In looking at their actions/words lately it made me realize that I too am too spoiled! So our family will be doing this challenge together and hope to be more humble in the end. I hope that we will be more compassionate to others, more thankful with all that we have received, and more content. I hope to get rid of any materialistic ideas that have shown up in our family. To teach our children happiness does not come from stuff!
"Do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." Hebrews 13:16
Day 1 Update...
Got to add this...tonight we explained to the kids what we are doing and were talking to them about our compassion international kid that we sponsor from Ecuador. Then we prayed our good night prayer and Noah wanted to pray for him...Noah said, "God I don't understand why he speaks spanish but that's ok...he still is a person!".
Love these guys! They are so excited about our 30 day adventure! I thought they might be too young for this but they aren't~
April, I love that idea! Will you share some of the ideas you all are going to be doing to work on those areas?
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I love your side bar devotionals. I was up with Julie in the middle of the night the other night, bouncing on the ball and catching up on blogs. I clicked on the Proverbs 31 devotional blog and it was so encouraging to me at 2 in the morning :)
Do share girl!? Sounds like a great idea to me.
